Shey Monastery - the former summer palace of the King of Ladakh. The Shey Monastery or Gompa and the Shey Palace complex are structures located on a hillock in Shey, 15 kilometres to the south of Leh in Ladakh, northern India on the Leh-Manali road. Shey was the old capital of the upper Ladakh region. When the Dogras of Jammu invaded Ladakh in 1842, the Namgyals abandoned the palace and fled to Stok (they made it their permanent residence) on the opposite side of the Indus River. It is conjectured that the fort found in ruins, not dated, above the present palace at Shey, belonged to this period of invasion. Leh Palace - Leh Palace is a former royal palace overlooking the town of Leh, Ladakh, in the Indian Himalayas. This palace was constructed circa 1600 by Sengge Namgyal. The palace was abandoned when Dogra forces took control of Ladakh in the mid-19th century and forced the royal family to move to Stok Palace. It is nine storeys high, the upper floors accommodated the royal family, while the lower floors held stables and store rooms. Much of the palace is in deteriorated condition, and little survives of its interior decorations. The Palace Museum holds a rich collection of jewellery, ornaments, ceremonial dresses and crowns. Chinese thangka or paintings, which are more than 450 years old, with intricate designs still retain the bright colors derived from crushed and powdered gems and stones. Structures around the palace's base include the prominent Namgyal Stupa, the colourfully muralled Chandazik Gompa and the 1430 Chamba Lhakhang, with medieval mural fragments located between the inner and outer walls. The palace is being restored by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), this palace is open to the public and the roof provides panoramic views of Leh and the surrounding areas.

Identity Proof : Always carry your original ID proof with you as Kashmir is the most sensitive part of India and anytime situation may go wrong. In that case it is only your ID proof that proves your nationality. So carry your Voter Card / Aadhaar Card / Driving Licence with you.

Keep / inform nearby contacts with you : If you have any contacts near that region / state like in Kashmir, Delhi, Haryana etc, let them inform about your journey or keep their address and contact no with you so that for any tough situation you can contact them for any help.

Medicines : This is one of the most important things in your travel kit or hand bag. Always carry basic medicine for fever, headache, vomiting, stomach upset and prescribed antiseptics, antibiotics, antacids and painkillers along with inhalers, pain relief sprays, band-aid, bandage & ointment for safe and secure journey.

Warm clothes and Jackets : Depending on your journey date you need to carry light (April - Oct) or Heavy (Nov - March) woollen clothes with you. Places like Gulmarg, Sonmarg and Pahelgam are very chilling throughout the year hence take proper precautions. It is advisable to carry water proof jackets or windcheater to avoid unseasonal rains.

Trekking Shoes/Boots : If travelling icy places like Gulmarg or Sonmagr during cold season, it is better to wear your own high thigh boots or gumboots to safe guard your legs though you can rent it from local stores.

Dry Fruits : Trust me, this is a must to be in your travel bags or hand bags. Kashmir is a hilly area and landslides may halt and stuck you in a place for long time. In that case only dry fruits can keep your hunger in control and alive.

Leh Ladakh is beautiful. This is to motivate people of all ages to surely visit this place once a heaven on earth. We had gone through NatureWings which was suggested by one of my friends who have experienced their expertise in Himalayan Region. We started our journey by flight from Mumbai to leh. It was a family Tour consisting of 7 Members. Leh is indeed a beautiful place to behold, best was Nubra valley. The stay in Nubra valley was excellent with good food and best possible service. The trip from Leh to Nubra valley and Pangong Lake has breathtaking views. While return we experienced snowfall in Khardungla Pass, which was like cherry on top. The driver we got was a very helpful and kind-hearted person. We very much enjoyed his accompany for the entire Ladakh Trip. All the arrangements were as per expectations and committed by them. A big thumps up for NatureWings, we highly recommend them to all.
