The Shey Monastery or Gompa and the Shey Palace complex are structures located on a hillock in Shey, 15 kilometres to the south of Leh in Ladakh, northern India on the Leh-Manali road. Shey was the old capital of the upper Ladakh region. When the Dogras of Jammu invaded Ladakh in 1842, the Namgyals abandoned the palace and fled to Stok (they made it their permanent residence) on the opposite side of the Indus River. It is conjectured that the fort found in ruins, not dated, above the present palace at Shey, belonged to this period of invasion. Subsequently, when the political dictates necessitated shifting of the capital to Leh, even then the importance of Shey continued since it was a mandatory requirement of the Namgyal kings to father their heir apparent here.
3 Idiot School - This school is also known as "The Druk White Lotus School" located in Shey, Ladakh, in northern India, and is known locally as the "Druk Padma Karpo School". It is nine storeys high, the upper floors accommodated the royal family, while the lower floors held stables and store rooms. Much of the palace is in deteriorated condition, and little survives of its interior decorations. The Palace Museum holds a rich collection of jewellery, ornaments, ceremonial dresses and crowns. Chinese thangka or paintings, which are more than 450 years old, with intricate designs still retain the bright colors derived from crushed and powdered gems and stones. Structures around the palace's base include the prominent Namgyal Stupa, the colourfully muralled Chandazik Gompa and the 1430 Chamba Lhakhang, with medieval mural fragments located between the inner and outer walls. Leh has basic medical facilities and hospitals, but they may be limited in remote areas. It's recommended to carry necessary medications and travel insurance that covers high-altitude regions.
Q. What Is The Currency Accepted In Ladakh?
The official currency of Ladakh is the Indian Rupee (INR). ATMs are available in Leh, but it's advisable to carry sufficient cash, especially when traveling to remote areas where card payments may not be accepted.

Fantastic arrangement by Team NatureWings. I recently book a trip in October with NatureWings after reading a lot of positive feedback especially their expertise in Himalayan Region. Our plan was for 7N/8D covering Leh & Ladakh. Throughout our journey, every day I used to get calls from them inquiring about the travel comfort, stay etc. I was really surprised with the professionalism and the care for their tourists. From handling of Permits, coordinating with driver, informing the concern person for our stays everything was butter smooth. I highly recommend NatureWings & Team to all, looking forward to do my future trips through them only.

It was an amazing Ladakh Trip. It’s our first family trip with NatureWings and In future surely we will plan our trips with NatureWings. All the arrangements made by them were as committed at the time of selling. The vehicle was in a very good shape & the driver we got, was an experienced young locale chap, who knows the hills very well. He shared his experience and travel tips as a guide beyond just driving. Quality of the hotels & surrounding breathtaking view was the icing on the cake. We got warm and comfortable rooms, along with the hot, fresh & hygienic foods. NatureWings hospitality touched our mind. The Leh Ladakh Tour Packages was beyond our expectations within this price range. Overall, it was a life time experience for me and my family. We will highly recommend NatureWings & Team to all for their Hospitality and the Expertise to provide the highest satisfaction.

Leh Ladakh is beautiful. This is to motivate people of all ages to surely visit this place once a heaven on earth. We had gone through NatureWings which was suggested by one of my friends who have experienced their expertise in Himalayan Region. We started our journey by flight from Mumbai to leh. It was a family Tour consisting of 7 Members. Leh is indeed a beautiful place to behold, best was Nubra valley. The stay in Nubra valley was excellent with good food and best possible service. The trip from Leh to Nubra valley and Pangong Lake has breathtaking views. While return we experienced snowfall in Khardungla Pass, which was like cherry on top. The driver we got was a very helpful and kind-hearted person. We very much enjoyed his accompany for the entire Ladakh Trip. All the arrangements were as per expectations and committed by them. A big thumps up for NatureWings, we highly recommend them to all.

For the first time in my life, I booked a package tour from a tour operator, and based on my experience, I must say it will not be my last. From the very first day of communication a thoroughly professional approach, keeping the best interests and the needs of the customer in mind at all times was their point of concern. All the arrangements were good & value for money, and the process of procuring permits and other formalities was seamless and smooth. The hotels and food were good, and even arrangements were made for vegetarian food as well. Overall, an excellent memorable experience. Team NatureWings was very responsive and we always felt safe and well taken care of throughout the trip. We enjoyed our Ladakh Package Tour from Mumbai at our fullest satisfaction. Kudos Team - NatureWings.

I recently finished my Leh Ladakh Kargil Package Tour with NatureWings. To be very honest and as per my first experience, NatureWings not just act as a Travel Agent its actually helps the tourists to choose and design the right itinerary based on their preference on Budget, Hotels, Age Group, Activity preference and obviously choice of meals etc. I really liked the way they have planned my trip. It was a smooth trip tough we have covered the maximum possible places. All the arrangements along with the hotels & the drivers were on time and perfect. Permit procedures was also smooth on time. NatureWings Team was in constant touch throughout the trip for any kind of any issues or complain we have and assuring our utmost satisfaction. I will highly recommend NatureWings and definitely will contact for our future travels for sure.
