Thiksey is especially noteworthy for its gigantic seated statue of the Maitreya and is also known for its (Dukhang) assembly hall which houses hundreds of rectangular prayer books, stacked between wooden covers and bound in silk.
Shey Monastery - The former summer palace of the King of Ladakh. The Shey Monastery or Gompa and the Shey Palace complex are structures located on a hillock in Shey, 15 kilometres to the south of Leh in Ladakh, northern India on the Leh-Manali road. Shey was the old capital of the upper Ladakh region. When the Dogras of Jammu invaded Ladakh in 1842, the Namgyals abandoned the palace and fled to Stok (they made it their permanent residence) on the opposite side of the Indus River. It is conjectured that the fort found in ruins, not dated, above the present palace at Shey, belonged to this period of invasion. Subsequently, when the political dictates necessitated shifting of the capital to Leh, even then the importance of Shey continued since it was a mandatory requirement of the Namgyal kings to father their heir apparent here.
3 Idiot School - This school is also known as "The Druk White Lotus School" located in Shey, Ladakh, in northern India, and is known locally as the "Druk Padma Karpo School". Karpo means White and Padma means Lotus in the local language Bodhi. The school got its name 3 idiot school after the famous Indian actor Mr. Amir Khan cast his memorable movie 3 idiots here. Post lunch you may visit :
Leh Palace - Leh Palace is a former royal palace overlooking the town of Leh, Ladakh, in the Indian Himalayas. This palace was constructed circa 1600 by Sengge Namgyal. The palace was abandoned when Dogra forces took control of Ladakh in the mid-19th century and forced the royal family to move to Stok Palace. It is nine storeys high, the upper floors accommodated the royal family, while the lower floors held stables and store rooms. Much of the palace is in deteriorated condition, and little survives of its interior decorations. The Palace Museum holds a rich collection of jewellery, ornaments, ceremonial dresses and crowns. Chinese thangka or paintings, which are more than 450 years old, with intricate designs still retain the bright colors derived from crushed and powdered gems and stones. Structures around the palace's base include the prominent Namgyal Stupa, the colourfully muralled Chandazik Gompa and the 1430 Chamba Lhakhang, with medieval mural fragments located between the inner and outer walls. The palace is being restored by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), this palace is open to the public and the roof provides panoramic views of Leh and the surrounding areas.

Q. Why the colour of Pangong Lake is blue?
Due to a variety of meteorological factors, this endorheic lake, which cannot drain anyplace, has a blue hue. The wavelength is also affected by the sun's rays. Red, because of its larger wavelength, absorbs quickly, whereas blue scatters. This is Physics' fundamental law. As a result, when the sun's white light enters the water, the blue is predominantly reflected back, giving the color a deep blue hue.
Q. What is the depth of Pangong Lake?
The depth of Pangong Lake is approximately 328 feet or 100 metres.
Q. How long is Pangong Lake?
Situated at an altitude of 4.30m, it is world heighest saline lake. The maximum length of Pangong Lake is approximately 134 km or 81mi in length. Among this total length 60% area of the lake lies in China and rest 40% belong to India. The lake is roughly 5km wide. In winter entire lake freezes completely despite being saline in nature.
Q. Why water of Pangong Lake is salty?
Pangong Lake is endorheic, which means that due to a small drainage basin, water cannot flow out of the lake. Since the beginning of time, this feature has allowed salts to remain in water. So, because of presence of salts, little evaporation (due to cold water), and nearly no drainage the water of the lake is salty.
Q. Why Pangong Lake is famous among tourists travelling Leh Ladakh?
Setting amidst the beautiful mountain ranges, Pangong Lake is best known for its alluring beauty, serenity and adventure. Located at high altitude (4,270m), this Lake is one of the prime attractions of Ladakh Tour.
Q. Is camping a good option around Pangong Lake?
Certainly! Around the lake, there are several camps with various amenities, ranging from basic to luxurious tents, cottages, and resort camps. Whatever camp accommodation you choose, the prime common thing is the spectacular view of blue lake outside from your windows. It is the best option to explore nature without any barriers.
Q. Can I visit Pangong Lake during winter?
Getting to Pangong Lake in winter is possible unless there is road block due to snowfall. The distance between Leh to Pangong Lake is almost 220km. It's a long 5 hrs journey with heavy SUV or Bike. The journey is smooth, but the only concern is road blocking if there is plenty of snowfall. Until roads gets cleared by BRO (Border Road Organization) or Indian Army, you can’t move an inch. But once you reach there, it’s a boon for your eyes and soul. You can behold the frozen lake under the thick sheet of snow. The surroundings and vicinity also remain covered under thick carpet of snow. So, before you plan to visit Pangong in winter, take adequate time and precautions before leaving.
Q. Which month is best for Pangong Lake Package Tour?
Ladakh Package Tour with Pangong Lake should be planned from March to August. This is summer in Ladakh and best season to travel. After long freezing winter the temperature starts to rise and the harsh winter seems to subside. Although from April to Mid May tourist could still find snow. March is the month of the adventures like trekking and river rafting and many more for those who are interested.

Leh Ladakh is beautiful. This is to motivate people of all ages to surely visit this place once a heaven on earth. We had gone through NatureWings which was suggested by one of my friends who have experienced their expertise in Himalayan Region. We started our journey by flight from Mumbai to leh. It was a family Tour consisting of 7 Members. Leh is indeed a beautiful place to behold, best was Nubra valley. The stay in Nubra valley was excellent with good food and best possible service. The trip from Leh to Nubra valley and Pangong Lake has breathtaking views. While return we experienced snowfall in Khardungla Pass, which was like cherry on top. The driver we got was a very helpful and kind-hearted person. We very much enjoyed his accompany for the entire Ladakh Trip. All the arrangements were as per expectations and committed by them. A big thumps up for NatureWings, we highly recommend them to all.

For the first time in my life, I booked a package tour from a tour operator, and based on my experience, I must say it will not be my last. From the very first day of communication a thoroughly professional approach, keeping the best interests and the needs of the customer in mind at all times was their point of concern. All the arrangements were good & value for money, and the process of procuring permits and other formalities was seamless and smooth. The hotels and food were good, and even arrangements were made for vegetarian food as well. Overall, an excellent memorable experience. Team NatureWings was very responsive and we always felt safe and well taken care of throughout the trip. We enjoyed our Ladakh Package Tour from Mumbai at our fullest satisfaction. Kudos Team - NatureWings.
